All participating institutes that follow the Centralised Seat Allocation Process shall use the Rank List, which shall be based on the criteria mentioned here.

In JEE Main 2023, no weightage will be awarded to marks in class 12th or equivalent qualifying examination for preparing Rank List for JEE Main 2023. NTA will use the raw score of JEE Main exam – Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry and total scores for the purpose of creating the Merit list or Rank List.

Breaking Tie in case of Equal Marks

If there is a tie in the aggregate of marks of two or more candidates, the order of merit for such candidates shall be decided in the following order

Rank list for admission to B.E./B.Tech (in institutions other than IITs)

At the time of preparation of merit list, ties will broken down using the manner defined below:

  1. In the first step, tie will be resolved based on marks obtained in Mathematics section. Candidates obtaining higher marks will be given a better rank
  2. In the next step, the marks obtained in Physics section will be considered. Candidates obtaining higher marks will be given a better rank
  3. After this, if any tie remains, they will be resolved using marks obtained in Chemistry. Candidates obtaining higher marks will be given a better rank
  4. In the next stage, the resolution will be done by finding the number of negative responses in the paper for each candidate. Candidates having lesser negative responses will be given a better rank
  5. If the tie still remains, the candidates with lesser incorrect questions in Mathematics section will be considered, followed by
  6. Candidates with lesser incorrect questions in Physics section will be considered, followed by
  7. Candidates with lesser incorrect questions in Chemistry section will be considered, followed by
  8. Older in Age, followed by
  9. Application Number in ascending order

If the resolution is not possible after this criterion, candidates will be given the same rank.

Rank list for admission to B.Arch (in Institutions other than IITs)

  1. Resolution by marks obtained in Mathematics in JEE Main 2023. Candidates obtaining higher marks will be given a better rank
  2. Resolution by marks obtained in Aptitude Test in the JEE Main 2023. Candidates obtaining higher marks will be given a better rank
  3. Resolution by marks obtained in Drawing Test in the JEE Main 2023. Candidates obtaining higher marks will be given a better rank
  4. Resolution by finding the number of negative responses in the paper for each candidate. Candidates having lesser negative responses will be given a better rank
  5. Rank determination by age of the candidate. If one candidate is older than another, then the older candidate will have a higher rank compared to the younger candidate

If the resolution is not possible after this criterion, candidates will be given the same rank.

Rank list for admission to B.Planning (in Institutions other than IITs)

  1. Resolution by marks obtained in Mathematics in JEE Main 2023. Candidates obtaining higher marks will be given a better rank
  2. Resolution by marks obtained in Aptitude Test in the JEE Main 2023. Candidates obtaining higher marks will be given a better rank
  3. Resolution by marks obtained in Planning Based Questions in the JEE Main 2023.
  6. Older in Age, followed by
  7. Application Number in ascending order

If the resolution is not possible after this criterion, candidates will be given the same rank.

Note: Any participating institute which does not use the Centralised Seat Allocation Process will prepare its own ranking, based on the performance in JEE Main 2023 and any other criteria decided by it.
